distressed

I decided to try my hand at re-painting and distressing some nightstands... I got my inspiration from this design blog I've followed for awhile. I love pretty much everything this girl does and I basically want to live in her house... it is beautiful. And white. And I love it.
But, I digress... I'm not known to be the greatest painter, but I'm pretty happy with my first ever attempt at something like this.

Take a looky-loo.

This is what I started out with ...
Pardon the dust, I forgot to take a picture before sanding.

They weren't awful ... just not really me. I scored them a few years back at Salvation Army. I paid a whopping 24 bucks for two solid oak nightstands. I know, I was impressed with myself too.
But then I tried to be all 'modern' and paint them black. Which was good for awhile ... but then I realized my intense love of neutrals and white things, and they had to be changed.

So, I sanded.
And primed.
And painted.
And painted a second coat.

And it was marvelous. Then I moved to the distressing phase. Which can be a little scary. I mean, I just painted these ... and now I'm going to scuff them up? But it was fun - and a little therapeutic to rough these bad boys up.

Here is the finished product.

oooooh.... aaaaaah.

I think it looks so much better!

So there you go! The room itself is still undergoing some re-doing as budget and time allow... which means it could be a long process.

Thats all for now... Big hugs!
